How to maintain a single-layer cage semi-trailer? How to extend its service life?

Single-layer grid semi-trailers, as the core tool for logistics transportation, operate under complex road conditions with high loads for a long time. Without scientific maintenance, not only will vehicle breakdowns occur frequently, but also the service life will be significantly shortened. This article provides a practical maintenance guide from three dimensions: daily inspection, key component maintenance, and seasonal maintenance, to help enterprises extend the lifespan of their vehicles.

I. Daily Inspection: Preventive Maintenance

1. Tires and Braking System

The tires are the only contact point between the vehicle and the ground. Daily checks are necessary to ensure that the tire pressure is within the standard range. Insufficient tire pressure will accelerate tire wear and increase fuel consumption; excessive tire pressure may lead to tire blowouts. At the same time, check the depth of the tire treads. If the remaining tread is less than 1.6mm, it must be replaced immediately to prevent skidding in rainy weather.

Regarding the braking system, check the thickness of the brake pads and observe the level of the brake fluid. If the brake fluid is cloudy or the level is below the lower limit, it must be replaced or replenished in time to prevent brake failure. Additionally, before long-distance transportation, test the response speed of the disc brakes to ensure that the braking distance meets safety standards.

2. Bin Grid Structure and Connecting Components

The stability of the bin grid directly affects the safety of the goods. Daily checks should be conducted to ensure that the vertical columns and crossbeams of the bin grid are not deformed, and that the lock rods and plugs are not loose. If any cracks in the weld seams or loose bolts are found, they must be repaired immediately to prevent the bin grid from collapsing during transportation.

At the same time, check if the anti-abrasion strips at the edges of the platform are worn out. If they are severely worn, they need to be replaced to prevent the goods from directly rubbing against the metal and generating sparks, which could lead to safety hazards.

II. Maintenance of Key Components: Extension of Core Lifespan

1. Axle and Suspension System

The axle is the core component that bears the weight and needs to be inspected for bearing lubrication every three months. If the lubricating grease deteriorates or is insufficient, it will cause the bearings to overheat, accelerate wear, and even lead to axle fracture. It is recommended to use lithium-based lubricating grease, which has excellent high-temperature and water resistance properties, and can extend the bearing lifespan by more than 30%.

The steel spring of the suspension system needs to be inspected every six months to check for any fractures or shifts. If the spacing of the spring plates is uneven, they need to be adjusted or replaced to avoid shaking during vehicle travel and ensure the safety of the goods.

2. Electrical System and Lighting

Electrical system failures are common issues for semi-trailers. Monthly checks should be conducted to ensure that the wiring is not aged or damaged, with particular attention paid to the lighting circuits at the top of the cargo cage. This is to prevent short circuits caused by water erosion. Additionally, test the brightness of the turn signals, brake lights, and reflective markings to ensure visibility during night driving.

III. Seasonal Maintenance: Adaptation to Environmental Changes

1. Heat Protection in Summer

During summer, the temperature is high, and tires tend to overheat and expand. Avoid prolonged high-speed driving. Every 2 hours, stop and rest for 15 minutes to cool down the tires. At the same time, check the cooling performance of the braking system. If the disc brake temperature exceeds 200℃, stop and wait for it to cool down before continuing the journey to prevent boiling of the brake fluid, which could lead to brake failure.

In addition, there is a lot of rain in summer, so it is necessary to regularly clean the drainage holes of the storage bin to prevent water from corroding metal components.

2. Winter Anti-freezing Measures

Low temperatures in winter can cause the viscosity of brake fluid and lubricating oil to increase, affecting vehicle performance. It is necessary to replace the brake fluid and lubricating oil that are suitable for the local temperature to ensure smooth startup.

At the same time, check if the air reservoir is waterlogged. If the water freezes, it will block the air passage and cause brake failure. It is recommended to drain the water from the air reservoir every day and install a dryer in the air passage to prevent moisture from entering.

Conclusion

The maintenance of single-layer bin fence semi-trailers should follow the principle of "prevention first and regular maintenance". Through daily inspections to eliminate potential hazards, precise maintenance of key components, and seasonal adaptation adjustments, the failure rate can be significantly reduced and the service life of the vehicles can be prolonged. Remember: Scientific maintenance is not an expense, but a long-term investment in the lifespan and transportation safety of the vehicles.
